Redžep
Redžep is the Bosnian orthographic form of the Turkish name Recep, which comes from Arabic Rajab (the seventh month of the Islamic calendar). It reflects Ottoman-era cultural transmission into the Balkans.
The name's significance relates to the month Rajab, regarded in Islamic tradition as one of the sacred months. The Quranic notion of sacred months is discussed in Surah 9:36, though the month name itself is not a Quranic personal name.
Redžep is relatively rare outside Bosnia and some Balkan communities but remains attested among families with Ottoman or regional ties; popularity is low on international scales.
In Bosnian pronunciation it is typically /redʒep/ — written 'Redžep' with the voiced postalveolar affricate (ž representing the sound similar to English 'j' in 'judge').
The form appears in regional records and family usage in the Balkans; specific internationally known figures more commonly use the Turkish 'Recep', while 'Redžep' remains more localized.
