In Islamic eschatology, the Day of Judgement, also known as Qiyamah or Yawm al-Qiyamah, is a significant event that marks the end of the world and the beginning of the afterlife. Believers are taught that on this day, every individual will be resurrected and judged by Allah (God) based on their deeds. The signs leading up to this day are categorized into two main groups: minor signs and major signs. Here’s a comprehensive overview of these signs:

1. Minor Signs:

These are events or occurrences that will take place before the major signs and are considered precursors to the Day of Judgement. Some of the notable minor signs include:

• Spread of Ignorance: A time will come when knowledge will be lifted, and ignorance will prevail.
• Increase in Immorality: There will be a rise in sinful behaviors, dishonesty, and corruption.
• Appearance of False Prophets: Many false prophets will emerge, claiming to be the messengers of God.
• Loss of Trust: Trustworthiness will become rare, and betrayal will be widespread.
• Time will Pass Quickly: Days will feel like hours, and years will feel like months.
• Rise of Materialism: People will compete in constructing tall buildings, and material wealth will become a primary concern.
• Disintegration of Family Ties: Family relationships will weaken, with children becoming disobedient to parents.
• Widespread Consumption of Alcohol and Drugs: Intoxicants will be consumed in large quantities.
• Prevalence of Natural Disasters: Earthquakes, floods, and other natural calamities will increase.

2. Major Signs:

The major signs are significant events that will occur closer to the Day of Judgement. These signs are:

• Appearance of the Mahdi: A righteous leader, known as the Mahdi, will emerge to guide the Muslim Ummah and restore justice.
• Emergence of the Dajjal (Antichrist): A great deceiver, the Dajjal, will appear and lead many astray with his miracles and false claims.
• Return of Prophet Isa (Jesus): Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) will return to defeat the Dajjal and lead the believers.
• Gog and Magog (Ya’juj and Ma’juj): Two barbaric tribes will break free from their barrier and wreak havoc on Earth.
• The Sun Rising from the West: One day, the sun will rise from the west instead of the east, marking a significant sign of the approaching Day of Judgement.
• The Beast of the Earth (Dabbat al-Ard): A beast will emerge from the ground, marking people as believers or non-believers.
• Major Earthquakes and Landslides: The Earth will experience massive upheavals, leading to the transformation of its geography.
• Widespread Smoke: A thick smoke will envelop the Earth, causing distress to its inhabitants.
• The Fire: A great fire will start in Yemen and drive people towards the place of gathering for judgement.

The signs of the Day of Judgement serve as reminders for believers to remain steadfast in their faith and to prepare for the Hereafter.
