Dua at the time of Calamities
One should recite the following dua when a calamity befalls him:
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ عِنْدَكَ أَحْتَسِبُ مُصِيبَتِي فَأْجُرْنِي فِيهَا وَأَبْدِلْنِي مِنْهَا خَيْرًا
To Allah do we belong, and to Him shall we return. O Allah, from You alone do I hope for reward in my calamity, thus reward me in it and replace me with something that is better than (what I have lost through) it.
عن أبي سلمة، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: إذا أصاب أحدكم مصيبة فليقل: إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون، اللهم عندك أحتسب مصيبتي فأجرني فيها وأبدلني منها خيرا (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 3511)
Hazrat Abu Salamah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “When a calamity befalls anyone of you, then he should recite the following dua:
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ عِنْدَكَ أَحْتَسِبُ مُصِيبَتِي فَأْجُرْنِي فِيهَا وَأَبْدِلْنِي مِنْهَا خَيْرًا
